Barrage of obstacles": Foreign business was intimidated by "nationalization"

Business Ombudsman Sergey Mironov believes that foreign companies will suffer significantly from their withdrawal from the Russian market.

The initiative to nationalize foreign companies leaving Russia is not aimed at "appropriating" Western property, but at putting pressure on business. This was stated by the ombudsman of the Moscow restaurant business, the founder of the Meat & Fish restaurants, Sergey Mironov, in an interview with the Telegram channel "Radiotochka NSN".

Earlier, the "Public Consumer Initiative" compiled a list that included McDonald's and Apple, as well as 59 other foreign companies that announced their withdrawal from the Russian market due to the situation in Ukraine. The organization proposed to nationalize these corporations. On March 9, the Government Commission on Legislative Activity approved such an initiative. Mironov believes that this measure will not act for nationalization.

"It is rather a protective law that does not allow foreign companies to leave now, as well as put pressure on the Russian economy. Because they are not really leaving, but are trying to freeze, thus strengthening sanctions, and then return. I don't think the purpose of the law is real nationalization. Most likely, they want to adopt it in order to build a barrier barrier that does not allow companies to freeze and unfreeze after some time. Western business will take nationalization in Russia extremely negatively, but its simultaneous withdrawal from our market causes huge damage to the Russian economy," he stressed.

At the same time, the business Ombudsman noted that foreign companies themselves will suffer from their withdrawal from the Russian market.
