without extreme measures

Capital catering expects to avoid closure in case of new restrictions - Ombudsman.

Moscow cafes and restaurants hope to avoid closure in the event of new anti-COVID restrictions amid the spread of the coronavirus.

This was stated in an interview with RIA Novosti by the public commissioner in the restaurant business in the capital, Sergei Mironov. “There are talks (about closing. – Approx. ed.), Of course, but everyone is waiting for what will happen. Together with the country, the capital entered and exited the restrictions (in previous waves. – Approx. ed.), But some of its own restrictions did not introduce. Therefore, we hope to slip through this time, too," he said.

The Ombudsman recalled that any lockdown is costly for the city authorities, since tax revenues to the city budget also fall due to a drop in revenue, and besides, Moscow subsidizes businesses, in particular restaurants, which leads to additional financial losses for the budget. In addition, Mironov continued, today, when introducing new restrictive measures, Moscow is guided not by the number of cases, but by the number of beds, which, as world practice shows, is not always filled. This gives the business some hope.

Earlier, the deputy mayor of the capital for economic policy and property and land relations, Vladimir Yefimov, did not rule out that new anti-covid restrictions could be introduced in the city if the healthcare system is overloaded amid the spread of the Omicron coronavirus strain. At the same time, he did not specify what specific steps the Moscow authorities plan to take this time, noting only that the city's life support systems and metropolitan entrepreneurs have already learned how to work under restrictions.
