The flow of workers from McDonald's will close the shortage of personnel in the Russian fast food - ombudsman

The issue of shortage of personnel in the fast food market in Russia will be completely closed at the expense of employees of fast food restaurants McDonald's. On the eve of the chain announced the temporary closure of restaurants, so those who worked in the company will definitely look for a new job, the president of the Union of Restaurant Managers of Russia, the ombudsman in the field of restaurant business in Moscow Sergey Mironov told TASS on Wednesday.

Earlier, the American corporation McDonald's announced that it would temporarily close all its restaurants and suspend all operations in the Russian market. At the same time, the company pledged to continue paying salaries to all employees in the country.

"The legislation in this case allows you to pay a salary in a smaller amount in case of downtime of the institution. But we still don't fully understand whether McDonald's will pay it in less or in full. One way or another, employees, without breaking the employment contract, will definitely try to get settled in other places. Firstly, because they are used to working, and secondly, out of a sense of security. The restaurant market - primarily the fast food market - will receive a fairly large number of employees. We can say that in this way the shortage of personnel in the fast food market will be closed," Mironov said.

He clarified that until today, the restaurant business in Russia lacked 25-30% of staff.

The Ombudsman also added that an increase in unemployment in the restaurant segment is not expected.

Closing of KFC restaurants in Russia is problematic

According to Mironov, the closure of KFC fast food restaurants in Russia is problematic, since most outlets operate under a franchise. He commented on the statement of the American company Yum! Brands (owns KFC and Pizza Hut restaurants), which stated that it suspended all investments and work on opening restaurants in Russia, and is also considering the possibility of applying additional measures.

"It will be very problematic for KFC to leave the Russian market, based on the structure, it is primarily a franchise. Imagine you are an entrepreneur and bought a KFC franchise, and now you get a call from London and are told to close. At the same time, you paid a lump-sum fee, royalties, and did not violate anything. How can someone from London make you go broke? You will send him away and continue to work using Russian products and even, probably, without changing the sign," Mironov said.

According to him, the management of KFC "with all the desire, the franchise will not collapse at the click of his fingers." "It is technically very problematic to deal with the franchise," concluded Mironov.
